New releases and repository for D packages
Hello people. I know some of you waited quite a bit for this (Intrepid) release but honestly, I HAD NO TIME!!!
Edit: These packages should be considered obsolete for Intrepid and future Ubuntu releases, since the repo at the tango website is now hosting (hopefully soon-to-be-)official packages.
First off, I have created a new repository since I had trouble maintaining the one at the tango website (dsource) and also it seemd that people in the community have started experimenting with it in the attempt to create some official debian packages. This new repo is hosted on my own company’s webservers so everything should be much easier. I will continue upgrading these packages for as long as it will be neccessary (basically until the official Ubuntu/Debian repos will have their own official packages).
So here they are, new releases for DMD (1.035) and DSSS (0.78). Also all packages have been prepared for Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid as well. This is how to install the repo.
sudo wget http://repository.palos.ro/ubuntu/<version>.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/repository_palos_ro.list wget -q http://repository.palos.ro/ubuntu/public.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
…where <version> is one of “gutsy”, “hardy” or “intrepid” without the quotes. The package versions are:
- DSSS 0.78-1
- DMD 1.035-1
- Tango 0.99.7-1
- Tangobos r59-1
After install run one of the commands below to activate the desired configuration, then you can just use “dsss” (if you like you can also use the commands below on every compilation to ensure that the right configuration is called regardless of the last configuration).
- dsss-dmd (DMD+Phobos)
- dsss-dmd-tango (DMD+Tango)
- dsss-dmd-tangobos (DMD+Phobos+Tango)
- dsss-gdc (DMD+Phobos)
- dsss-gdc-tango (DMD+Tango)
- dsss-gdc-tangbos (DMD+Phobos+Tango)
As always I also uploaded the deb files for direct download at: http://download.palos.ro/Debian D Packages/
Enjoy! :)

[…] This article is obsolete. New repo is available at repository.palos.ro. More info in the new article. […]

Well, the “experimental” repo works very well now, and is well tested - so I’d highly recommend anyone to use it - the more users testing it further, the faster it can become a more official offering.

I totally agree! Maybe I have not been clear enough: The work on this site should be considered obsolete (or a helping reference at most)!
As I stated in the article, these packages will stop being upgraded as soon as we will have official ones in the Debian/Ubuntu repos.
It is very important to help test the new “experimental” repo at dsource so you should go there. I only upgraded these packages because of the persistent requests of the community and the fact that I also still (partially) need them.
Cheers!
